Baz Luhrmann Injured On 'Great Gatsby' Set

It's not easy being Jay Gatsby nor is it easy being the man who oversees him, apparently. Though it's not an action movie by any stretch of the imagination (though it does veer off towards the thriller genre at points), production on "Great Gatsby" reportedly got a bit hairy over the holiday weekend when director Baz Luhrmann was injured on the film's Australian set following a collision with a camera crane, according to the Sydney Morning Herald (via The Hollywood Reporter). "We were on quite a cramped set and he was ducking under the crane," "Gatsby" co-producer Anton Monstead told the Herald of the incident. "He struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head, and we had to get the doctor." Luhrmann reportedly needed three stitches in his head following his injury. As a result of the accident, production on the Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire starring drama shut down one day early for the Christmas holiday, with shooting planned to resume after the new year. Atkins Files For Divorce, Attorneys Deny Assault

First Published: December 15, 2011 2:02 PM EST Credit: Getty Images Caption Rodney Atkins speaks at the #1 Party for Take A Back Road at BMI in Nashville, Tenn., on October 3, 2011NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Rodney Atkins has filed for divorce and his attorney denied Thursday the country singer assaulted his wife last month. Atkins was arrested Nov. 21 and charged with domestic assault. His wife, Tammy Jo Atkins, told police that after a night of heavy drinking he assaulted her and tried to suffocate her with a pillow. Attorney Rose Palermo said in a statement the allegations of violence are completely untrue and that the argument between the couple did not become physical. Palermo writes of an unfortunate verbal dispute that was within hearing range of the couples young son. When Atkins realized this, his first priority became getting out of the earshot of the child, and that is when Mrs. Atkins called the police and gave them her version of the argument, which is completely untrue. The platinum-selling singer, known for No.1 hits including If Youre Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows), 'Take a Back Road and Watching You, decided to file for divorce as a result of the false statement to police, the statement says. Both allege inappropriate marital conduct in divorce filings in Williamson County. Tammy Jo Atkins is seeking full custody, an equal distribution of their assets, alimony and child support. Rodney Atkins is seeking joint custody. In one filing, his attorney says Tammy Jo Atkins ill conduct was a justifiable cause for his own conduct in the early morning hours of Nov. 21. Tammy Jo Atkins told police the couple had been arguing all night and that her husband was intoxicated. She claimed he tried to smother her with a pillow during the night and then in the morning grabbed her by the face and shoved her down a hallway. She said she feared for her safety and that the assault occurred in front of their 10-year-old son, Elijah. A hearing in the divorce case is scheduled for Dec. 20. Palermos statement says the police witnessed no violent acts and that this is a case of her word against his. Mr. Atkins plans to spend significant time with his child over the Christmas holidays and respectfully requests privacy at this time, the statement reads. Mr. Atkins wants to thank his fans for standing by him and he is confident the truth will prevail. It's time for new deals

Even Wall Street can have too much of a good thing. Investors are begging big media to stop using mountains of cash to buy back stock and instead get busy and do some deals -- or else pay bigger dividends. Time Warner has obliged, putting in a second bid for Dutch TV giant Endemol on Monday, this time all in cash after the first mixed cash-and-stock offer was rejected. There have been only two major deals this year: News Corp.'s acquisition of Shine Group and Scripps' purchase of UKTV. But the five biggest media companies -- TW, News Corp., Walt Disney, Viacom and CBS -- will buy $15.5 billion worth of their own shares in fiscal 2012, predicted Evercore Partners' Alan Gould. That's up from an estimated $12.5 billion this year and reps a major chunk of the combined companies' circa $200 billion in market capitalization. Management buys up stock when company honchos think it's cheap or undervalued. If the shares have already rallied, if they're overvalued or heading lower, that's not so good. Repurchases assume "CEOs are better than anyone else" at knowing where the stocks are heading, Gould said. Buybacks, in fact, "have the potential to destroy shareholder value if shares are purchased above intrinsic value, a legitimate risk in the context of an uncertain macro environment," wrote Anthony DiClemente of Barclays Capital in a note to clients. The U.S. economy has been shaky, battered by woes in Europe and at home and with little visibility for advertising or much else. DiClemente wants media congloms to make strategic acquisitions -- of international assets in particular. Companies have access to cheap financing, the dollar is getting stronger, and buying new assets could boost sluggish revenue growth. "It's no secret that the media sector has a dubious record when it comes to M&A," DiClemente acknowledged. But the disastrous AOL-Time Warner, Viacom-CBS and Vivendi-Universal deals happened a decade ago. The analyst said it's time to get back in the game. Repurchasing stock reduces the number of shares outstanding and boosts earnings per share. DiClemente noted that management compensation is sometimes tied to earnings per share. Also, since investors generally like stock buybacks, a company's share price usually rises when one is announced. That's a boon for execs who hold lots of stock options. Media investor Chris Dixon said a program of regular stock buybacks that monitors the market and can jump in to take advantage of dips is a good idea. But it becomes a problem when they are "used as excuse for not taking action when companies are unwilling to invest in new ventures." If there's nothing around to buy, congloms could invest in their current businesses. "That 'there's too much money around and nothing else to do with it'" isn't a good motivation for buying back stock, Dixon said. The other main way to return cash to stockholders is through dividends, which aren't "accretive" to earnings per share but do give investors back some cash on a regular basis. Analysts today would prefer dividend hikes to more buybacks. Most media companies have also raised their dividends. But buybacks have accelerated much more quickly. DiClemente noted that in 2009, dividends made up 67% of total capital returns, but in 2011, only an estimated 15% will be from dividends -- vs. 85% from share repurchases. Dividends can leave management with less flexibility, however. Once you raise a payout it's hard to cut it without investors making a stink and the stock taking a hit. Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said last week at a media conference that Viacom would return $20 billion to shareholders over the next five years -- a mix of buybacks and dividend payments that he didn't break out. DiClemente figures Viacom will have bought back 11% of its market cap in 2012, at the high end of the group. Under its existing program, it's authorized to buy back as much as 28%. Share buyback programs, which lay out the amount of stock management is authorized to purchase over a given time, are approved by a company's board of directors. Disney acquired $5 billion worth of stock in fiscal 2011. CBS last week announced an additional $1.5 billion buyback on top of its ongoing program under which it acquired $850 million in shares this year as of Sept. 30. News Corp. is buying back $5 billion -- some of the cash that's sitting there after the conglom gave up its bid for BSkyB. Time Warner, which has the highest dividend yield in the group, acquired $3.7 billion in stock this year through the end of October under a $5 billion program. Time Warner Cable announced a $4 billion shares repurchase last month. Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

Five-Year Engagement Trailer: Holy Christ, Alison Brie and Jacki Weaver Are In the Same Movie

The first trailer for The Five-Year Engagement has arrived, and only time will tell where it falls on Universal chief Ron Meyer’s well-known quality-control spectrum. Does the story of one couple’s protracted wedding plan look funny enough? Sure. Will Emily Blunt and Jason Segel bring in the dates and the dudes alike? Why not? But do you know what really sells this movie? I can barely even write it. Here — let me try pictures: And… Believe it: Alison Brie and Jacki Weaver are in the same movie. And their characters are related. And they have the best lines. (“This is your wedding! You only get a few of these!”) And they go to a funeral, which at this point I’m just going to imagine is my own: To what do we owe this mind-melting phenomenon? And what do we call it? Jalison? Briever? Anyway, we can figure it out later, just call me a doctor. [via Yahoo!] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

David E. Kelley, Dr. Sanjay Gupta Team for TNT Medical Drama

Patty Jenkins Petty Jenkins is no longer directing Thor 2. The filmmaker, best known for directing the Charlize Theron movie Monster and AMC's pilot for The Killing, was to have been the first female director of a Marvel Studios movie. Alas, "creative differences" are being blamed. "I havehada great time working at Marvel," Jenkins toldThe Hollywood Reporterin an exclusive statement."We parted on very good terms, and I look forward to working with them again." The move is sudden since as late as Monday afternoon Jenkins was actively working on the movie. The filmmaker participated in an interview and photo shoot withTHRon Dec. 2, during which she discussed her involvement in the project and praised Marvel. "I have a long love of superhero films and I'd been saying over and over again to my agents at CAA that I'd like to do one," Jenkins told THR for a magazine feature on female directors that hits newsstands on Dec. 8. "That's the real revolution."The Marvel guys are so brave in terms of who they choose overall, and I don't think they had any pause about me being a woman." Jenkins told THR she had stayed away from features from the past several years because of her young son but eagerly accepted the Thor 2 job. "I met with all the actors and to my surprise, here we are," she said. Marvel is said to want to work with Jenkins again in some capacity. According to insiders, the studio is now on the hunt for a new filmmaker and the vacancy is expected to be filled very quickly. The director's departure is the second for Thor 2; Kenneth Branagh, who directed the first movie, did not return for a second outing, also citing "creative differences." Marvel had no comment. The Guide to Wednesday TV: Two New Comedies to Hate, the Whitechapel Finale

The Exes Comedy is very hot this TV season - thank ABC's best-of-class Wednesday comedies (all in repeats tonight), CBS' Monday blockbusters, NBC's cult faves and Fox's giddy New Girl - but two lousy new sitcom arrivals buck the trend, leaving a sour aftertaste. Normally I'd celebrate at any circumstance that shrinks The X Factor to 90 minutes, but in this case, it opens the door for Fox's unpleasant I Hate My Teenage Daughter (9:30/8:30c), which traps two gifted comedians - My Name Is Earl's Emmy-winning spitfire Jaime Pressly and two-time Tony-winning scene-stealer Katie Finneran - in no-win roles as shrill moms who used to be ugly ducklings and are now cowed by their bratty offspring (forgettably rendered by Aisha Dee and Kristi Lauren), who are turning out to be the sort of spoiled mean girls who tormented the moms back when they were in high school. Want more Matt Roush? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now! "Why are they so mean to us?" whines one of the insecure moms, who are mocked for their fashion sense - Pressly's character was raised by strict religious zealots who saw the Gap as the devil's playground - or for their eating habits. "I did not eat my cat!" shrieks the compulsively hysterical Finneran with a mouth full of chocolate. Later, when she's seen neurotically stuffing her face with pie, using her hands - "C'mon, Nikki, use a fork! You're not a bear!" - I found myself hating what Hate was doing to these talented stars. Even worse, the show is ultimately toothless, because as snotty as the daughters are, they actually love their moms, and vice versa. Awwww... phooey. The writing is so trite that when the teens balk in an upcoming episode at the idea of a Family Night (to which the ever-present ex-husbands are invited), we share their despair. "This is how horror movies start," snaps one of the girls. Horror movies are usually funnier. More purposefully retro, TV Land conjures up The Exes (10:30/9:30c), which feels like a stale Frankenstein sitcom cobbled together with spare parts - by which we mean veteran actors - who made their names on better shows. Thus we have 3rd Rock From the Sun's Kristen Johnston as a brash divorce lawyer playing landlord/mama bear to three clients who live in one of her apartments across the hall. Look, there's Scrubs' Donald Faison playing to type as a sports-agent womanizer. And hello, Newman! It's Seinfeld's Wayne Knight as a coach potato who does little but shop online. The third wheel is David Alan Basche, a familiar TV face still waiting for a hit, as the newbie roomie, weepy and needy and described by Faison as being "like my ex-wife but without the expensive breasts." It's The Odd Couple plus one - except it's not. It's all just kind of sad. The guys like to think of their bachelor pad as a "sharing-free zone," but I just wish TV Land hadn't felt compelled to share this one with us. By comparison, the network's cheesy Hot in Cleveland (10/9c) is a modern classic. As it begins its third season, we pick up in the aftermath of Elka's (Betty White) aborted marriage, as she now has to decide whether to go with her fiancé Fred (Buck Henry), her returned-from-the-presumed-dead hubby Bobby (Don Rickles) or her longtime squire Max (Carl Reiner). Why doesn't she just keep all three and form their own version of the Friars Club? That's a heckuva lot of legendary talent in her corner. Meanwhile, Victoria (Wendie Malick) and Joy (Jane Leeves) find there are unexpected consequences to having tied their own knot. Shifting gears to crime drama, BBC America's twisted Whitechapel (10/9c) reaches the end of its macabre six-episode run, with the police under siege from the "federation of crime" led by the creepy twins who appear to be the reincarnation of the infamous Kray brothers of the '60s. But are they? The pressure in getting to the truth behind the Kray legend really gets to beleaguered DI Chandler (Rupert Penry-Jones), who tries to temper his OCD demons with liquor: "I'm self-medicating," he tells a concerned colleague. But is he drunk, or crazy like a fox, when he challenges one of the Krays to a boxing match? Chandler's fussy, fragile integrity makes him one of the more endearing crime-fighters you'll meet this season. He's much better company than Duncan "Hatch" Hatcher, the glum, humorless Savannah detective played by a miscast John Corbett in TNT's insipid mystery movie based on Sandra Brown's Ricochet (9/8c). Trying for hard-boiled, Corbett can only achieve half-baked in this flimsy twist on a femme fatale caper, where the worst crime is the damage perpetrated on the Southern accent. The belle of this deflated ball is Dexter's Julie Benz as Elise, the seductive wife of a possibly corrupt judge (Gary Cole as the improbably named Cato Laird). She falls into Hatch's lap, literally, as he and his sarcastic partner Deedee (the monotonal Kelly Overton) investigate Elise's shooting of an intruder in her house. He can't trust Elise (especially when more dead bodies pile up at her feet), but he also can't resist her. The plot manages to be somehow both complicated and simplistic, yet is rarely credible or compelling. A double treat for the Star Trek fandom tonight: On USA Network's Psych (10/9c), William Shatner guests as Juliet's con-man dad, torn between making things right with his law-abiding daughter and pursuing yet one more dream scam. ... We are all part of Trek Nation, or so the Science channel suggests in a two-hour special (8/7c) marking the landmark space opera's 45th anniversary. Series creator Gene Roddenberry's son Rod leads this tribute, revealing rare home movies from the family archive (including the first Trek fan convention) and interviewing famous fans including George Lucas, J.J. Abrams and Seth MacFarlane as he gets to the roots of this global phenom. Looking for live music? NBC's annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center special (8/9c; some NBC affiliates will begin airing the festivities at 7/6c) features the legendary likes of Neil Diamond, Tony Bennett, Carole King and the Radio City Rockettes gathering for the lighting of the 74-foot Norway Spruce tree. Contemporary acts include The Voice winner Javier Colon and judge Cee Lo Green, upcoming Smash star Katharine McPhee, crooner Michael Bublé and the inevitable Justin Bieber, showing off his music video with Mariah Carey on "All I Want for Christmas Is You." Another all-star gathering on the opposite coast takes place at L.A.'s Nokia Theatre, the staging ground for CBS' The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! - Countdown to Music's Biggest Night (10/9c), during which key nominations for the Feb. 12 awards show are announced in between musical performances from Lady Gaga, Usher, Rihanna, Ludacris, Jason Aldean, The Band Perry and others. A centerpiece of the special is a rap superstar collaboration on Grammy Hall of Fame-honored rap recording "The Message," featuring the show's host LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash, Lupe Fiasco, Melle Mel, Rick Ross and Scorpio. Take that, The X Factor's Astro. Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Sarkozy to set up national music org

President Nicolas Sarkozy has confirmed that he will set up the Centre National de la Musique to support the French music industry in the same way that the CNC backs the local film biz. Sarkozy said his government aims to launch the org by next spring with an annual budget of E145 million ($195 million), which will be financed in large part by taxes collected from Internet service providers, and to a lesser extent by taxes on ticket sales for live events. The music org would centralize, regulate and distribute existing resources and subsidies provided by various institutions such as the Authors Rights' Collective Management, and Civil Society of Phonographic Producers, as well as the French Ministry of Culture. "We are going to set up a system for music that is similar to the system used by the CNC to support cinema," said Sarkozy at a forum on digital creation in Avignon. "I would like the Internet service providers, which are extremely prosperous and that's good for them, to contribute to music creation just as many industry players contribute to film creation. The day there are no longer any musicians, filmmakers and writers, what will your generation look for on the Internet?" The plan has been warmly received by the music biz. "Considering the difficulties faced by the music sector, which has been weakened by a 60% fall on recorded music, and the lack of substantial contributions, we are favorable, in principle, to the creation of the CNM," said Bernard Miyet, CEO and chairman of France's Society of Authors, Composers and Editors of Music. "We are, however, expecting to see details regarding the board's management and financing before we give our full approval." Sarkozy also said the anti-piracy law, Hadopi, will be extended to apply to users of illegal streaming websites. Sarkozy claimed that Hadopi has caused peer-to-peer piracy to drop by 35% since its inception in June 2009, although the figure has been disputed by numerous French journos. Andre Braugher Battles the Team on SVU: "He May Be the Enemy, But He's Not a Villain"

Andre Braugher It's a different character, a different city, and a different department, but when Andre Braugher returns to NBC for his first appearance on Law & Order: SVU Wednesday (airing at 10/9c on NBC), there will be one very familiar face in his midst. "It's kind of funny because Munch has been in both of these worlds, and here I am basically in Munch's world appearing as someone else, so there's a cute little meet and greet," Braugher tells TVGuide.com of his reunion with Homicide: Life on the Street co-star Richard Belzer. "I say, 'Have we met?' There's a glimmer before we get down to brass tax in the show basically to acknowledge we know each other and that we spent a significant amount of time together." Law & Order: SVU's new boss on Meloni's exit, new detectives and rejuvenating the show It's been almost 12 years since Braugher retired his badge in the 2000 Homicide TV movie, and although his co-star is still portraying the same wise-cracking cop, Braugher's Det. Frank Pembleton is nowhere to be seen. Instead, the two-time Emmy winner will guest-star in three episodes as Bayard Ellis, a well-known defense attorney who made his money defending drug kingpins and now works pro-bono. "Bayard Ellis is a lawyer with the resources and a real desire to represent defendants to make sure they get the kind of trial and the kind of defense that they deserve," Braugher says. "Quite often the criticism of the state is that they choose defendants that don't have resources and consequently bargain down the charges or prosecute those people who have no chance of really presenting a sturdy defense." Although Bayard's presence will cause big problems for the SV unit, he'll serve as a sympathetic ear (and maybe more) for Olivia (Mariska Hargitay). "It's been pretty well established over the years that it's very hard for Olivia to create balance in her life. He is suggesting that he knows where she's coming from and that the pursuit of justice and the defense of your clients in the pursuit of justice is all-consuming. As important as that work is, it's also taxing and also drains all the participants of all their strength or energy," Braugher says. "Right now, Bayard and Olivia are fellow travelers. Where it develops, I don't know. But right now, he may be the enemy, but he's not a villain." Watch full episodes of Law & Order: SVU Go behind the scenes of Braugher's first SVU episode: But make no mistake. Bayard may reach out to Olivia on a personal level, but in the courtroom, he means business. "I think that makes the storytelling is better when you have credible opposition rather than guys who are pushovers. It allows those stories to take on a little more depth," Braugher says. "[The episode] reveals that the justice system is broken in its own way so that's different storytelling than you normally see on SVU or any of the Law & Order shows." It's this focus on storytelling that had driven Braugher away from procedurals and towards edgier, more serialized cable fare in recent years. In 2006, he played a recently widowed robber posing as a classic car salesman on FX's Thief before the drama was axed after one season. He then stepped into the shoes of Owen Thoreau, a car salesman (for real this time) facing his 50s on TNT's Men of a Certain Age. Like Thief, Men of a Certain Age was critically adored, but failed to resonate with viewers. The series was canceled this past summer after two seasons and a passionate save-the-show campaign from creators and executive producers Mike Royce and Ray Romano. "I wasn't very optimistic. Mike was very optimistic as was Ray because it's their baby. Having been in television for a long time, I've seen a lot of good shows get canceled and the writing was on the wall for me," Braugher says. "We needed more eyeballs and we couldn't find them to save our lives." TNT cancels Men of a Certain Age Despite these recent professional disappointments at the hand of the Nielsen box, Braugher knows TV is still where he wants to be. "I consider myself good at what I do and it really becomes a question of what the storytelling is like. This is an art form that I love: being on television and the storytelling is superb. Sometimes it's on cable and sometimes it's on networks, but it doesn't really matter to me at all," he says. "I don't know what that project is or when it will come along, but I'm really looking forward to it when it happens." That next project could even be a return to SVU beyond his original three-episode arc. Braugher says he hasn't heard anything, yet, but he'd love to come back as long it makes sense for the character. "I don't want to push it. I want it to be organic and I want it to feel right so these three episodes are really my chance to see what it's like to be in the SVU world and SVU to see what it's like to have me there," Braugher says. "It's a necessary step for all of us to really find out where we stand before making anything permanent."

Glitch in the Grid

A Vanguard Cinema release of an Albino Fawn Prods. presentation. Producer, Eric Leiser. Executive producer, Lorrete Bayle. Directed, written by Eric Leiser. With: Jay Masonek, Jeffrey Leiser, Eric Leiser, Erin Desmond, Michelle Desmond, Linda Darnall, Patricia Darnall.A strange narrative/nonfiction/animation smorgasbord that could be termed "Acid Christian," Eric Leiser's naive and loopy"Glitch in the Grid" tries to dramatize a lonely young artist's search for meaning and purpose. Leiser flexes his animation muscles with a bewitching stop-motion technique, but it proves a poor fit with a scattershot storyline that includes quasi-interview and improv segments that never coalesce into a coherent whole. Verging on primitivist, the pic could gather a cult following during select playdates in Gotham and West Coast cities. The story, such as it is, centers on Jay (Jay Masonek), a depressed animation artist and filmmaker living with his relatives in Sebastopol, Calif., west of Sacramento, who's urged to get out of his funk by spending time with cousins Eric and Jeffrey (Leiser and composer brother Jeffrey) in Los Angeles. Oddly, Jeffrey and Eric drive north to bring Jay back south; Jay then tries to get into acting, though little reason is given for what appears to be an impossible venture from the start. The three eventually go their separate ways, with Jay returning home, Jeffrey moving to NY and Eric arranging for his marriage to a British gal in Hastings. How much of this is concocted as fiction and how much is recorded or slightly altered from actual events is impossible to determine, and this blurred line between fiction and nonfiction at least makes "Glitch in the Grid" part of a global cinema conversation going on right now among adventurous young filmmakers. The difference here is that, unlike many fine examples of such pics that straddle the line, the level of discussion and ideas expressed -- especially in a string of awkward voiceovers by the Leiser brothers, as well as onscreen "interviews" with Masonek -- are borderline embarrassing in their banality. ("If things continue on our fast-food society, it's not gonna be really good" is a typical big statement here; the title comes from a uncomfortably laughable self-description by Jay: "I feel like a glitch in the grid because I don't feel I belong anywhere but someday I'll find the key to unlock the grid.") Eric Leiser, a CalArts animation alum, neither describes nor visually expresses what this grid actually is, but his many asides in stop-motion swirls are dreamily wonderful, and generally stand alone as discrete and intact sections. His fascination with land art comes across with amusing dexterity and a piquant sense of humor, but even here, the repeated motif of a flying dove, part of the film's direct but never preachy Christian philosophy, betrays a weakness for kitsch. Leiser's animated cinematography is gorgeous, shot often in woody environs, while the wide-ranging crew of lensers deployed at several locations in California, Britain and elsewhere (in color and black-and-white DV) is as willy-nilly in quality as the pic's sound.Camera (color/B&W, DV), Leiser, Rory Owen Delaney, Marco Menestrina, Richard Samuels, Dale Marks, Daniel Seeley, Iggy Villamar, Adrian Sierkowski, Nathan Meier, Patrick Crowley; editors, Eric Leiser, Jenny Leiser; music, Jeffrey Leiser; production designer, Eric Leiser; costume designer, Lindy Fox; sound (stereo), Guillaume Raynaud; sound designer, Jeffrey Leiser; sound re-recording mixer, Jeffrey Leiser; animation/photography, Eric Leiser. VoicesBeavis, Butt-mind - Mike Judge Mondo - Josh Gad Woodie - Adam Brody Babs - Debi MazarThe boys have came back at MTV, along with more recent and much more effective pals. Only "Beavis and Butt-mind" -- which now somewhat pretentiously carries creator Mike Judge's title upfront -- remains a rowdy, guilty hoot, while companion "Good Vibes" is an additional adherent for the Seth MacFarlane school of animated comedy -- namely, fire off jokes in rat-a-tat fashion and hope a few connect. "Vibes" does yield a couple of amusing bits, but Judge's mumbling, "heh heh"-ing goofballs once again steal the show. Frankly, it may be worth getting "Beavis and Butt-mind" back strictly due to its amusing riffs on MTV programming, since the two teenage doofuses -- happily unchanged utilizing their run inside the the 19 nineties -- sit back on the couch departing comments on fare like "16 & Pregnant" and "Jersey Shoreline." Watching the 2nd, they're amused with a listing the gang puts together trying to follow each of their intramural hookups. "Once they like did this chart extended enough, they may uncover where herpes began," Butt-mind drones. Each one of the small-tales within each half-hour may also be pretty funny on their own -Body including teenage girls' quite recent infatuation with vampires of the underworld from the underworld (and B&B's determination to acquire bit), another a distinctive squabble over whether Beavis cried at something he saw on tv. Mostly, Judge posseses an unerring ear for popular culture and outright stupidity -Body that mostly eludes "Good Vibes." The series concentrates on overweight 15-year-old Mondo (voiced by "It of Mormon's" Josh Gad), who moves with a La beach town along with his trampy mother (Debi Mazar). Mother really yields the most effective recurring gag, as she seeks a completely new job and keeps mentioning to her employment options being more appropriate to producing a complete time earnings "in my knees" or "in my back" -- which, shockingly, does not necessarily mean what you can think. Aside from that, though, it's all about Mondo's efforts to match in, getting quickly been adopted with the crazy surfer Woodsy (Adam Brody), who becomes his tour self-help guide to this Off-shoreline Coast purgatory. Series creator David Gordon Eco-friendly ("Pineapple Express") and fellow authors Tom Brady and Christian Lander keep the teen-oriented jokes flying fast and furiously, there's however nothing here to differentiate "Vibes" from a number of similar comedies in line with the familiar indignities of adolescence and school. MTV is extended past its own growing pains, but it's telling "Beavis and Butt-mind" -- an artifact in the own adolescence -- once again might be the very best factor round the network. Through the press models for 'Transformers: Dark in the Moon,' it absolutely was assumed that Michael Bay wouldn't return to the franchise for nearly any future obligations. The director told MTV he planned to produce 'Pain & Gain' next -- an authentic-existence story of a kidnapping plot in Florida gone awry -- for your modest quantity of $20 million. Within a business call with experts formerly Monday, Hasbro Boss John Goldner relayed what is the news the organization is "positively speaking about" a fourth 'Transformers' film with Bay, producer Steven Spielberg and Vital. Iranian Filmmaker Jafar Panahi Faces Six-Year Stretch After Sentence Upheld

Somehow this slipped past us this weekend, but Iran has taken another step toward silencing one of the country’s most important filmmakers after an appeals court upheld a six-year jail sentence, according to various reports that included the government-run newspaper Iran. According to that newspaper: “The charges he was sentenced for are acting against national security and propaganda against the regime.” His colleague Mohammad Rasoulof also faced a six-year sentence, and that was knocked down to one year. Panahi’s sentence includes a 20-year ban on making films, and traveling abroad. The convictions against Panahi and Rasoulof prompted an outcry among filmmakers, Amnesty International and international film festivals this year. Panahi’s lawyers reportedly will appeal again, but things are looking dire for an award-winning filmmaker who publicly mourned the deaths of protesters in the presidential elections, and reports say he and Rasoulof reportedly made a film about the aftermath. This is the same government that barbarically sentenced actress Marzieh Vafamehr to 90 lashes and a year in prison for appearing in My Tehran For Sale, and which called out the Cannes Film Festival for “fascist behavior” when it banned director Lars von Trier for his dopey comments about Nazis made at a press conference for Melancholia. Panahi won the Camera d’Or at Cannes for the 1995 film The White Balloon, and the festival pointedly added films by Panahi and Rasoulof to its program in May.

'Persepolis' airing draws protest in Tunisia

LONDON -- Some 50 Islamist protesters in Tunisia were arrested by police Sunday for an attempted arson attack on the Tunis offices of satcaster Nessma TV after it screened "Persepolis." Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi's toon, which aired Friday, is based on Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel charting life in Iran after the 1979 revolution, when the broad-based overthrow of the shah was taken over by theocrats. The protesters claimed the toon, winner of the jury prize in Cannes in 2007, offends Islam. Many were particularly outraged at a scene in which God appears before Satrapi to give her a lesson about forgiveness. Some 300 protesters marched to Nassam's offices but were dispersed by the poice. The country's main Islamic party, Al-Nahada, condemned the protest, deeming the incident "isolated." Nessma TV was launched in 2007 by Tunisian media businessmen Nebil and Ghazi Karoui, who together own 50% of the company. Quinta Communications topper Tarak Ben Ammar and Silvio Berlusconi's Italian broadcaster Mediaset each own 25%. "The deplorable actions of the small fringe of protesters this weekend speaks volumes about the dangers inherent in allowing any party not committed to dialogue, open society and freedom to gain power in the country," Ben Ammar said. "Thankfully, the Tunisian security forces acted quickly and decisively to protect Nessma's brave and patriotic employees." He added that all political parties in Tunisia, including Al-Nahada, have condemned the attack on Nessma and expressed their solidarity for freedom of the press. The protests come just two weeks before the country's elections for a constitutional assembly and will be the first vote in Tunisia since longtime President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali was overthrown in January. Since his fall, conservative Muslims have become increasingly vocal in the country. "Nessma TV has always stood for liberty and freedom of expression," Ben Ammar said. "It stood for this before the Jan. 15 revolution, despite being threatened at times by the former regime, and it most certainly continues to stand for it now. "We will always welcome different points of view and respect our differences but we will never bow down before the voice of intolerance or injustice." Motherhood Aloud

Randy Graff, James Lecesne, Mary Sausage and Saidah Arrika Ekulona perform motherhood vignettes in Motherhood Aloud. A Principal Stages presentation from the play in one act produced by Susan Rose and Joan Stein, put together by Leslie Ayvazian, Brooke Berman, David Cale, Jessica Goldberg, Jesse Henley, Lameece Issaq, Claire LaZebnik, Lisa Loomer, Michele Lowe, Marco Pennette, Theresa Rebeck, Luanne Grain, Annie Weisman and Cheryl L. West. Directed by Lisa Billings. With: Mary Sausage, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Randy Graff, James Lecesne. An anthology of sketch plays, unified having a female-friendly theme and hang together mostly by women? "Motherhood Aloud," a show produced by Susan Rose and Joan Stein and put together by twelve as well as a couple of males, sounds made-to-order for your "Love, Loss and A Few Things I Used" audience. But despite prior showings at Hartford Stage as well as the Geffen Playhouse, the material has yet to jell. Writing is uneven, format requires a change, as well as the whole show need to look in a health health spa for just about any style transformation. The collective message of individuals 20 vignettes -- put together through the impressive likes of Jesse Henley, Theresa Rebeck and novelist Luanne Grain -- might say known that motherhood is tiring, terrifying, but ultimately marvelous work. Taken individually, however, the show's bits and pieces produce mixed, even detrimental signals. Rachel Hauck's abstract set puts a contented face on motherhood, nevertheless the pointless graphics and dull video predictions ensure it is look completely dreary. More unkindly, the drab costumes imply, once women become moms, they forget the best way to dress themselves. The chronological timeline also does the material a injustice by suggesting the tender, funny, and endearing areas of being a parent are limited for the early years. "New inside the Motherhood," an inspired sketch by Lisa Loomer, finds thesp Mary Sausage in wry humor just like a laid-back mother trying to get accustomed to playground protocol ("Can't we just allow them to duke it?Inch) and independently pleased with her naughty boy ("Put the youthful girl lower, Harry"). In Michele Lowe's low-keyed monologue, "Full Esther," Randy Graff ("Capital of scotland - Angels") makes sensitive work from the understanding mother whose 7-year-old boy desires to placed on barrettes within the hair and become Full Esther for Purim. Some sketches undertake expected subjects, like birth pains and insomnia, in expected ways. Others show some originality when controling thorny issues like adoption, gay nurturing, and, in the quietly moving monologue by Grain, the job to become a stepmother. However when past infancy and early childhood, it's all regulated controlled loss, avoid and sorrow. The kids develop, mind on college, got married, visit war, and, within the bitter finish, watch their moms get old and helpless. Some playwrights' voices tend to be captivating than these. But with the finish in the evening, these appear pretty depressing.Sets, Rachel Hauck costumes, David C. Jacksons Guard: Physician Collected Vials From Jacksons Nightstand Before 911 Call

La, Calif. -- The very first bodyguard to achieve Michael Jacksons bed room following the performers physician known as for help claimed Thursday he was relayed through the doctor to collect medicine vials before calling 911. Alberto Alvarez stated Dr. Conrad Murray snapped up the vials from the nightstand alongside Jackson, who had been still in the mattress. He stated Here, put these inside a bag. Alvarez stated of Murray. Alvarez stated in the beginning he thought he wasbagging the products when preparing for a visit to the hospital. He stated he reliable Murray while he would be a physician. During my personal expertise, I thought Dr. Murray had the very best intentions for Mr. Jackson, Alvarez stated. I didnt question his authority. Deputy Da David Walgren demonstrated Alvarez and jurors a vial of propofol as the bodyguard was around the stand in the third day's Murrays involuntary wrongful death trial. Murray has pleaded not liable. Jurors intently checked out the bottle, which made an appearance to still contain some liquid. Prosecutors are calling key witnesses so that they can show Murray postponed calling government bodies at the time the King of Pop was discovered lifeless and was set on camouflaging signs he have been giving the singer doses from the surgical anesthetic. Sometimes throughout Alvarezs testimony, he looked directly at Murray, who from time to time passed notes to his attorney. When he joined the bed room, Alvarez stated, he saw Jacksons eyes were open and was surprised to determine the singer was putting on a condom catheter, a medical device that enables someone to urinate without needing to wake up. Alvarez claimed that Murray only told him Jackson were built with a bad reaction. Walgren performed Alvarezs 911 demand jurors. Hes moving the chest area, but hes not reacting to anything, mister, Alvarez told the dispatcher, advocating these phones send an ambulance rapidly. He stated, after hanging track of dispatchers, he carried out chest compressions on Jackson while Murray gave the singer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation efforts. The physician remarked it had been his very first time carrying out the process. I must, Alvarez remembered Murray telling him, this really is my pal. Earlier, Alvarez claimed that Jackson is at good spirits in a testing around the evening before he died. He was happy, Alvarez claimed. I actually do recall he is at excellent spirits. Prosecutors happen to be calling witnesses who have been with Jackson and Murray your day the singer died. Government bodies accuse Murray of giving Jackson a lethal dose from the anesthetic propofol within the bed room. The jury has become a glimpse in to the artists inner sanctum through photos and testimony. Alvarezs testimony will probably be challenged by Murrays defense lawyers, who on Wednesday asked Jacksons mind of security and also the performers personal assistant about why they didnt reveal certain particulars concerning the day Jackson died to police not less than two several weeks. Defense lawyer Erectile dysfunction Chernoff requested Faheem Muhammad and Michael Amir Williams about whether or not they contacted Alvarez before their interviews with detectives. Williams, who had been Jacksons personal assistant, stated his interview with detectives have been postponed. He claimed he received an urgent telephone call from Murray at the time of Jacksons dying but wasnt told to call 911. He known as Muhammad, who then sent Alvarez to Jacksons bed room around the second floor from the performers leased mansion within the ritzy Holmby Hillsides neighborhood of La. The area was off-limits to Jacksons staff, and Muhammad paused before racing in the stairs after reaching the mansion right before paramedics showed up. He referred to a heart-wrenching scene. At that time, he stated, Jackson have been taken off his mattress and was on the ground, where Murray, sweaty and frantic, was carrying out CPR. Alvarez was pacing nervously, Muhammad told the jury. When he saw Jackson close up, he understood why. What have you observe about his face, district attorney David Walgren requested That his eyes were open, Muhammad stated. That his mouth was slightly open. Did he seem to be dead, Walgren requested. Yes. The bodyguard soon observed that Jacksons children, Prince and Paris, had collected through the entrance. Paris was on the floor, balled up crying, Muhammad stated. He brought the kids from the room, after which right into a suv so that they could stick to the ambulance towards the hospital. A few of the moments recounted by Muhammad will probably be repeated Thursday as prosecutors work to complete other particulars about Murrays behavior after finding Jackson unconscious. Also likely to testify on Thursday are Kai Chase, a chef who spoke to Murray briefly around the morning of Jacksons dying, and paramedics who also attempted to bring back the singer. The medics thought Jackson had been dead when they showed up, but Murray was adamant the artist automatically get to a hospital for further resuscitation efforts. Prosecutors contend Murray didn't tell the security officers or emergency personnel he have been giving Jackson propofol along with other sedative drugs to assist him sleep. Chernoff stated in opening claims that Jackson gave themself the lethal dose. A lot of the trial in later periods will target the science of the items wiped out Jackson, and dueling ideas of Murrays role. Copyright 2011 by Connected Press.
